The Escape the Backrooms code you need depends on the lock. The M.E.G. desktop password is itheardyou, and the Level 3999 arcade elevator uses 931. Other screens ask you to solve a live matching or color puzzle instead of entering one universal number.
Start by identifying the room and interface. A correct code entered at the wrong computer, keypad or terminal will not advance the task.
Quick code and clue reference
| Location or interface | Code or method |
|---|---|
| M.E.G. base desktop computer | itheardyou |
| Security terminal outside the base | Match the target text on the current display three times |
| Level 3999 arcade elevator | 931 |
| Terror Hotel room-section lock | The paper clue produces one of 17564, 05938 or 89472 |
| Habitable Zone elevator | Read the colored-car clue for the current run |
| Level 421 entrance | Use the numbered ball-container colors and the mixing chart |
| Level 421 flower projectors | Match each flower shape to its observed color |

The table mixes fixed passwords with puzzle methods deliberately. Only the entries with an explicit fixed value should be treated as a reusable password. For the others, the room supplies the information that determines your answer.
The Hub has a matching puzzle and a separate password
The security terminal beside the M.E.G. base door displays a target on the right and selectable text in three sections. Find the exact target, confirm it and repeat for three successful matches. The changing display is the answer source; another player's string is not a universal solution.
Inside the base, restore the lights and inspect the note on the table. The usable desktop password is itheardyou. After logging in, run Gate.exe and approve the action. Then return to the Security Override in Level 1 and use the lever to open the garage gate.
If you have entered the password successfully but the garage remains closed, check the application and override steps. A computer login and an opened physical gate are different states in the same progression chain.
Read the colored-car clue at the elevator
In the first Habitable Zone section, the elevator's solution comes from the arrangement of colored cars and the accompanying clue. Read the cars in your own run and apply the ordering shown there.
Do not borrow the digits from a screenshot without comparing its car arrangement with yours. The reusable part is the method of translating the colored-car clue into the elevator sequence, not an assumption that every run displays the same answer.
Terror Hotel uses room papers
The hotel's second section has mailboxes with open compartments corresponding to room numbers. Those rooms contain the paper pieces needed to reveal the number-lock answer. Collect the relevant papers, return to the mailbox area and read the completed clue.
The known combinations are 17564, 05938 and 89472. The paper method tells you which answer belongs to the current puzzle instead of making you guess which of the three values is active.

This is the hotel room-section lock. It is separate from the portrait ordering in the main hall and the Moth Jelly exchange for keys. A five-digit number does not replace either of those earlier tasks.
The arcade elevator is fixed at 931
Level 3999's elevator clue is printed on a ticket on a table near the lift. Enter 931 to activate the elevator and continue toward Level 0.2.

The code does not trigger the later Final Escape outcome by itself. That ending has its own requirement to complete the four other endings before using the special arcade machine. An ordinary travel keypad and an ending interaction are not interchangeable just because they both involve Level 3999.
Level 421 asks you to read colors
The entrance to the newer Plastic Mariana route has numbered containers of plastic balls. Use the numbers as the entry order and read each container's color. Where a container holds two colors, consult the room's mixing information to determine their combined result.
Later, note the shape and color of the flowers you discover, then use the projectors to reproduce those pairings. The possible flower colors are pink, cyan and yellow, but the assignment to flower shapes changes between playthroughs. Copying one video's complete flower setup can therefore produce the wrong answer in your run.
For both puzzles, keep each clue paired with its label: container number with color, or flower shape with color. Remembering only the colors loses the ordering information that the lock needs.
Diagnose a rejected answer by its interface
Check the location, the type of input and the remaining progression step. A terminal might need a selected match rather than typed text; a color keypad needs the room's order; a successfully unlocked computer can still require you to run its gate application.
Read a changing clue again after a reset or a new session. Keep fixed values such as 931 and itheardyou separate from those generated assignments, and avoid treating a working code from one level as a cheat for the rest of the game.
