Level 6 Lights Out and LiDAR

Quick Answer

To complete Lights Out, find the tool room, equip a LiDAR scanner and use its projected dots to navigate the dark maze to Level 7.

To complete Lights Out, find the tool room, equip a LiDAR scanner and use its projected dots to navigate the dark maze to Level 7. The scanner's radar shows Wretches as red markers and teammates as green markers. Crouch and move out of a Wretch's path when it is close.

Your flashlight helps in the earlier rooms but stops being useful in the deeper darkness. This change is part of the level's navigation challenge; the replacement tool is the LiDAR scanner.

Search the first rooms for equipment

Level 6 follows the Level 94 castle sequence. Its first passages still allow ordinary flashlight navigation. Search the nearby supply rooms for a flashlight and sanity supplies before moving deeper.

Your next landmark is a room with flickering light and equipment on a desk. Read the note and pick up a LiDAR scanner. Do this before entering the completely dark section. A player walking into that section with only a flashlight has missed the tool needed to read its walls.

You are looking for the equipment room, not a breaker repair puzzle. The flickering light identifies a change in how the level works rather than something you must fix to restore lighting throughout the maze.

Read the scanner's two kinds of information

The LiDAR combines a view of surfaces with a radar display. Use both, because they answer different questions.

Scanner informationMeaningUseful response
Projected dots on surfacesNearby walls and passage shapesTrace a corridor or reveal an opening
Red radar markerA nearby WretchCrouch, listen and leave its path clear
Green radar markerAnother playerKeep track of the team without chasing a red marker

Activate the scanner's projection using your current item-use control. On the default mouse setup, clicking sends out the dots. Sweep across a wall and the adjoining gap so you can distinguish a corner from an opening.

The dots' color can change. That visual change is not the red-versus-green radar classification: use the radar marker itself to identify a threat. Do not assume that differently colored wall particles mean a new enemy has appeared.

Begin by mapping the wall nearest you with the scanner. Follow a consistent side long enough to establish a corridor instead of turning toward every dark gap. Scan ahead at corners, then across the next wall before moving.

A community map can help with the overall shape, but a diagram should not overrule the corridor in front of you. Some walkthroughs themselves note differences between the drawing and the visible passage. Reorient at an intersection you can actually identify rather than forcing several unverified left turns.

Previously projected dots can also help you recognize a return to explored space. If you lose your bearings, stop at a junction and scan each branch. Distinguish the route you entered from the unexplored continuation before moving again.

This is especially useful when teammates have separated. A green radar marker indicates their relative presence, but following it blindly may pull you away from the route you were tracing. Agree on a junction or the tool room as a meeting point.

Let nearby Wretches pass

The Wretches in Lights Out are handled through quiet movement and positioning. When the scanner shows one close by, crouch near a wall and stay out of its walking path. Do not sprint through the corridor merely because darkness prevents you from seeing the creature clearly.

The scanner can reveal the shape of a Wretch against the surrounding surfaces, while the radar warns you of proximity. Use the warning to change your movement before the entity is on top of you.

Crouching is not a reason to deliberately collide with an enemy. Give it space, keep the path open and resume your route after it passes. The behavior here also should not be carried into Level 9: Wretches in the houses there can see you.

Keep your sanity supplied during the maze search. Stopping in a clear stretch to use Almond Water is more controlled than opening your inventory while a red marker approaches.

Separate the ordinary exit from the M.E.G. branch

The main route through the dark maze leads to Level 7, Thalassophobia. The descent into the flooded environment confirms that you have finished the ordinary Lights Out route.

There is also a card-controlled M.E.G. branch associated with later ending progression. After completing Ending A and having the required card access, you can return from Level 7 toward Level 6, open that door and navigate an additional short LiDAR maze toward Level 974.

A locked branch door during an early visit is therefore a different condition from being lost on the Level 7 route. Do not search for a random floor key or restart the entire maze expecting the ordinary exit to require that later access card.
