Download and storage size

Plan for 25 GB of available storage for Escape the Backrooms on PC. That is the current Steam requirement for both minimum and recommended specifications, checked on November 1, 2026.

It is an available-space requirement, not a promise that every download transfers exactly 25 GB or that every console installation has the same size. For the current transfer and installed size, use the value shown by the client on the device you will actually install to.

Storage, download size and RAM are separate

Number you are checkingCurrent established valueWhat it describes
PC available storage25 GBFree space requested by the Steam requirements
Minimum RAM8 GBSystem memory, rather than drive space
Recommended RAM16 GBRecommended system memory

A small download can still expand into a larger installation. Likewise, installed files and an update's transfer size are different figures. Avoid using a screenshot of one download as a permanent capacity requirement for everyone.

Why older pages show 6 GB

Some older requirements sites still show 6 GB of free disk space. That conflicts with the current Steam listing's 25 GB requirement. For a new installation, use the current store value rather than the older figure.

The game has expanded since its Early Access period. A guide or video from an earlier build can be accurate for that recording while being unsuitable for planning today's installation. The publication or capture date alone is not enough; the relevant question is which build and package the number describes.

Check your actual installation before downloading

Choose the drive where the game will be installed, then check its free space. Do not count space on a different drive unless you intend to install there. Let the client show the current required space and transfer estimate before starting.

If the client requests more space than expected during an update, follow its current requirement rather than forcing the old store number to fit. Do not delete saves or unrelated project files merely to reach a guessed package size.

Console and cloud expectations

PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 availability is confirmed, but a verified current installed size for each console is not established here. The PC's 25 GB figure should therefore stay labelled as a PC requirement.

Cloud play is separate again. A streamed session is not a local installation of the full Windows or console package on the viewing device. Check the streaming service's access and device requirements rather than treating the Steam storage number as a cloud-download requirement.
